Literature Text

                                                            I.
The roots began to recede back to their source when the door closed.
                                             I tremble as I walk,
I can feel their eyes watching me as I go past.
                                            I don't feel safe here,
And I no longer feel the ground beneath my feet.
                                            (Help me, I'm falling).

                                                           II.
The windows to my soul slam shut.
                                       A mask, a dam, a brick wall,
                                           Seals everything away.
How much longer until the champagne saturating my mind
Fires the cork at the dam and floods the world around me?
                                           (I can't open the gates).

                                                         III.
The curtains are drawn across the stage.
                                           My figure is eclipsed,
                                        Hidden, and smothered,
                                        By everyone around me,
                                            And I cannot free it.
                                            (I can't rise above).

                                                        IV.
Medusa's gaze locks my heart away.
The ashes of a fire once mighty
Quietly lie in a gloomy introverted reflection.
The last of the warmth fades quickly
As you begin to disappear right before my eyes.
(The cold took you away from me).

                                                       V.
A noose tightens around my neck,
                                Trapping my voice within myself.
                               All utters, murmurs, and whispers
                                Are extinguished from existence;
                                          All words fall silent.
                                       (I can't make a sound).

                                                      VI.
The light is snuffed from the room in the corner of my mind,
And everything is choked by darkness.
Suddenly blinded from my inner self,
I stumble about in a state of confusion,
Unable to find the way on my own.
(I can't see the path before me).

                                                    VII.
The world around me fades into a heavy fog.
A large and complex series of threads a spider once wove,
Yet the threads that once connected me
Now wave wildly in the wind, taunting me
With the memory of the web.
(No longer am I connected to the world).
Hey look! I submitted something for once! *insert confetti*

Anyway, this was a project that I did for one of my classes. We were supposed to do our "own interpretation of the Seven Wonders of the World." So here's my take on it.

P.S. For anyone wondering what the theme is, think of something that has seven. That's all you get for now ;P

P.P.S I apologize if some of the stanzas look funny: there doesn't seem to be a convenient way of centering the text to my knowledge.
